In the works of investigation It is necessary to refer to other texts and these references are known as verbatim citations. Thus, a textual quotation consists of literally copying a fragment of a Author in a document. On the other hand, the textual citation is part of the bibliography, which is the set of textual references used in the research.

How do you make a verbatim quote according to the APA model?

The acronym APA stands for American Psychological Association, which is the standard procedure commonly used for making verbatim citations. According to this procedure, the rule to be used is the following: author's last name followed by the year in parentheses and that refers to the cited work, a text introductory text and finally the textual quotation in quotation marks accompanied by a parenthesis in which the exact page of the book aforementioned.

An example of this explanation would be the following: Hume (1987) states with respect to skepticism that "doubt is part of knowledge" (p. 36). If the citation is longer, a similar formula is used: author's last name (year), an introductory text followed by the punctuation mark: and then a space in which the complete textual quotation is entered but without quotation marks and, at the end of the text, the book page is included in parentheses aforementioned.

APA standards are used for three purposes:

1) that the textual citation procedure is homogeneous,

2) that the author of a text present evident evidence that proves that his words are not plagiarism and

3) that the research carried out is carried out according to ethical criteria.

Quote and paraphrase

The quote verbatim reproduces the words of an author. Instead, a paraphrase is made when an author's idea is communicated not in his exact words but by expressing it in his own words. The use of paraphrasing has a less formal character than the textual quotation, but both forms of citation express the same idea: the I respect towards the ideas of other authors.

The bibliographic reference on the internet

The data of a bibliographic reference varies according to the source and the type of author. To reference information that has been obtained from a website, the following information must be provided: last name of the author in Capitalized and separated from the name with a comma, title of the work, electronic medium, edition number, place of publication, editorial, year of publication, date of the citation and, finally, it must be indicated that the reference is available in Internet and then pasted into a link.
