    Inductive Logic Method Example

    Logic   /   by admin   /   July 04, 2021

The type of reasoning that from particular knowledge reaches a generalized conclusion is called inductive. This type of reasoning applied to the scientific method allows that from the observation and postulation of hypotheses, scientific laws are formulated and the verification and demonstration of the already postulated.

The inductive method consists of the following steps:

    1. Observation: A natural phenomenon is observed and an explanation is sought about it.
    2. Hypothesis: An explanation is postulated, which the observer thinks may be the answer to the fact that the phenomenon occurs.
    3. Experimentation: A hypothesis test is carried out with several different cases that lead to the same result.
    4. Conclusion: If the hypothesis works for several cases, then it works for all.

    Inductive logic method example:

Applying the inductive logic method to explain that birds are born by egg.

Observation: It is observed that canaries are born by egg.

Hypothesis: Birds are born by egg

Experiment: The experiment in this case consists of observing the birth of several species of birds. It is observed that the eagles are birds and that they are born by egg; it is observed that ostriches are birds and hatch by egg; it is observed that hummingbirds are birds and are born by egg.

Conclusion: based on the observations it is concluded that the birds are born by egg.

Another example of inductive logic method it is the verification that bodies always fall at the same speed, regardless of mass.

Observation: It is observed that if two objects of different weight are released at the same height, they reach the ground at the same time.

Hypothesis: The falling time of an object is independent of its weight.

Experiment: Several objects of different weight are dropped at the same height, varying it from one meter up to 10 meters and it is observed that they always reach the ground at the same time, if the friction of the air.

Conclusion: all objects, regardless of their weight, if they are released from the same height, they reach the floor at the same time.
