Unlike other types of files, the catalogs have the characteristic of establishing the inventory of a set or group of publications, books or texts that are found on a site, which should not necessarily be physical, since it can also include university and institutional digital repositories, among others.

Catalog files are widely used, especially in libraries, where it is necessary to control the books available, essential information about the texts such as the author or the year of publication, but also about the nature of its theme or if it is part of a larger collection wide.
