There are different types of predicate which are classified according to the type of word or construction that fulfills the function of the nucleus and according to the number of nuclei. For example:sandra bought a house a few years ago.(simple verbal predicate)

In the bimember sentences, there are two fundamental constituents; The subject and predicate. The subject is that construction whose nucleus is a noun, a pronoun or a noun word that must agree in gender and number with the verb of the predicate. For example: The students they passed the exam. (“Students” is the subject, “students” is the core of the subject, and “passed the exam” is the predicate)

The predicate it is that construction that provides information in relation to the subject. Generally, that information is related to actions, which are expressed by conjugated verbs.

Types of predicate according to their nucleus

Depending on the type of word or construction that performs the function of the head, the predicate can be:

• verbal predicate. It is one whose nucleus is a predicative verb (the type of verb that has its own meaning), which agrees in person and number with the subject. In this type of predicate there are usually different verb modifiers, such as circumstantial. For example: Patricia lives in Paris since 2008.
• nominal predicate. It is one whose nucleus is a linking verb (to be, to be, to seem) or pseudocopulative that agrees in person and number with the subject. Also, after the verb there is always a attribute, that is, a verbal complement that states the qualities, characteristics or states of the subject. For example:Heaven it's light blue.
• non-verbal predicate. It is one that lacks a conjugated verb and whose nucleus can be a noun, an adjective, an adverb, a verb or a similar construction. There are different types of non-verbal predicate:
  • nominal nonverbal. The core is a noun, a adjective or a similar construction that states the characteristics or states of the subject. For example: Window, beautifull.
  • nonverbal adverbial. The core is a adverb or a similar construction that states the circumstances. For example: The dog, in the park.
  • nonverbal verb. The core is a verboid. can be from infinitive (for instance: ¿go out in this cold, me?), of participle (for instance: reports, reviewed) or from gerund (for instance: the doctor, working in the hospital).
  • nonverbal object. The core is a noun designating the entity that receives an elided action. It can also be made up of preposition to + term, if it refers to the recipient of an elided action. For example: ¿Hunger, me?

Types of predicate according to their number of cores

Depending on how many cores you have, a predicate can be:

• simple predicate. It is the one that has a single nucleus. For example: Andrea he left.(the kernel is "went out")
• compound predicate. It is one that has two or more nuclei. For example: Andrea went out andI buy food. (the nuclei are “went out” and “bought”)
