The word conservative is an adjective that is used to designate those people or policies that have as objective precisely preserve traditional structures or forms, without yielding to any type of renovation or modernization that may introduce oneself. Normally, the conservative groups in a society are those made up of the upper classes that are always reluctant to progressive, liberal or left-wing attitudes. In general terms, the word conservative can have a negative meaning since in the present conservative positions are those that do not accept change or progress.
As its name implies, conservatism is a ideologypolitics, social and economic that is based on the conservation of all those institutions and traditional elements of a society, not progressive. Conservatism is so opposed to liberalism as to all revolutionary ideologies since both propose both changes and freedoms that do not depend on the structures traditional (the Church, power concentrated in a few people, protectionist economic policies, cultural forms and expressions elitists, etc).
At present, it is common to find countries in which there is a clear division between conservative and progressive political parties. These current conservative parties are always the most reluctant to generate any type of change and thus enter into major conflicts with those more liberal or modern parties.
The term conservative can, consequently, be applied to people since in that case we would speak of individuals with little tolerance to change or to any type of modification of the structures (whatever these may be) that govern your life and your day to day. Normally, older people are the ones who show a attitude more conservative while young people tend to be those with a more revolutionary or progressive spirit. This has to do with stage in which each one finds himself and what it means to have lived a lifetime in a certain way and not be, at a certain age, ready to change.
