Example of Possessive Pronouns in English

    English   /   by admin   /   July 04, 2021

Possessive pronouns in English indicate the possession or belonging of something that has already been spoken of in the sentence, and to which we are referring.

There is a possessive pronoun corresponding to each of the personal pronouns and they are the following:

    I - mine (I - mine)

You - yours (you - yours)

He - his (his - his)

She - hers (she - hers)

    It - its

    We - ours (we, our)

You - yours (you - yours)

    They - theirs

Possessive pronouns in English are sometimes confused with possessive adjectives, since they have a very similar correspondence and structure. In terms of their writing, possessive pronouns are written the same as possessive pronouns only by adding a -s at the end of the word, except for the first person singular and for the third person singular in male:

My - mine (my - mine)

Your - yours (you, hers - yours, hers)

His - his (his his - his his)

Her - hers (his hers - hers hers)

It - its (his hers - hers hers)

Our - ours (our - our)

    Your - yours

    Their - theirs

As for their use, possessive adjectives are written immediately before a noun; while possessive pronouns are written in any part of the sentence and refer to a noun that has already been spoken or that is already known:
