Grave Words of Countries

The serious words (or plain words) are those whose stressed syllable is the penultimate. We call stressed syllable to the strongest syllable within the word. For example: Italia, Argenyouna, it ispaña.

When do serious words have an accent?

(!) Exception. When they present hiatus, grave words carry accent mark, even if they end in N, S, or vowel. For example: Hunyelledto.

The other types of words, according to their stress, are the sharp (stressed on the last syllable), esdrújulas (stressed on the third to last syllable) and sobreesdrújulas (accented on the syllable before the penultimate).
